 IMMIGRATION LAWS & HOW THE PROCESS WORKS

Panama laws require that all applicants who wish to obtain residency visa, to hire a Panamanian attorney to represent them before the immigration office.  Therefore, clients are required to sign a power of attorney before a notary public upon arrival in Panama.

Q. WHAT ARE THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR PENSIONADA VISA?

A. To obtain pensionada visa, the following two (2) documents  are required; 

  1. Pension confirmation letter: Retirees need to have a minimum pension ( income ) of $1,000. per month.  For example social security benefits, VA benefits, annuity or private pension income is acceptable.

2.   Police report clearance  confirming that the applicant has no prior criminal activities in the past (FBI report for Americans and RCMP report for Canadians) 

NOTE A:  All the documents must be apostiled in the home land and then translated to Spanish language by a certified translator in Panama.

NOTE B: American, Canadian and European citizens can travel to Panama without visa and are allowed to stay for a period of up to 180 days. 

Q. HOW TO APOSTILE YOUR DOCUMENTS?

A. Panama requires all foreign documents such as police clearance report, pension benefit certificates, marriage certificates and birth certificates to be apostiled before submitting for residency visa. There are 2 options for apostiling a document;

  1. Apostile Agency in your country
  2. Panama Consulate in your country  

If you are living in a country that has Apostile Agency, then you may choose to apply for apostile of your documents through this channel. For example, if you are living in Europe, you can get your documents apostiled through the Apostile Agency in your country.

Q. HOW TO BECOME RESIDENT OF PANAMA? 

A.  Pensionada visa residency process is as follows; 

  1.    TEMPORARY PENSIONADA VISA RESIDENCY
Upon your arrival in Panama, our attorneys will finalize the required documentation in order to submit to the immigration agency. Once the residency visa application is approved, clients will be granted a temporary residency visa ID card and it is valid for 6 months.
  2.    PERMANENT PENSIONADA VISA RESIDENCY
Within 6 months, we notify clients to fly to Panama again and receive their permanent residency visa ID card.
 3.    E- CEDULA ID CARD FROM TRIBUNAL ELECTORAL

E-CEDULA is optional however we highly recommend to apply for it as soon as you become permanent resident of Panama.
